Making Every Day a "Viernes" in Spanish Class

Monday, February 8, 2016

You no longer need to wait until Friday to dance in Spanish class! Get your students moving any day and at any time. Dancing in class is an awesome brain break and also an opportunity to share some culture through music. Download the PowerPoint below to choose what rhythm to dance to in class. Make sure to use the PowerPoint in presentation mode. Click on the word "girar" to let the drums roll!

Download PowerPoint here!

I also added some of my favorite songs so you don't have to go all the way to YouTube to play them in class.  Freestyle dancing works great during this activity!

Salsa: Vivir Mi Vida - Marc Anthony

Andina: Muñasquechay (Mi buen amor)- Los Kjarkas

Rock: Chayanne- Madre Tierra

Vallenato: Jorge Celedón - La Invitación

Have fun!

  1. ¡Hola Carolina! ¡Divertido!

This opens in Keynote when I download it. How can I get it to roll the drums?

    Gracias....espero que estes bien.

    1. Hola Sue,
Thank you for writing here! Not sure why it opens on Keynote. It was created on PowerPoint so I am not sure what's happening. To be able to listen to the sound you need to have the presentation on the "presenter mode" and click on the word "girar", you will hear the sound that way. I hope this helps!

  2. Hi Carolina!

I am a middle school Spanish teacher and I also love incorporating movement into the classroom through dance in order to keep the students engaged and immerse them in culture! I have been looking for different typed of "brain-breaks" with students. Do you do anything else in particular besides "mini-dance parties?"

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Christina,
I use the ones in the post below with my K-3 students and they love them. I am sure that your middle schoolers will like them too. They are very generic.
      Here is the link:

  3. Me encanto! gracias Carolina por compartir todas esas ideas tan cheveres.
